Festival international d'opéra baroque de Beaune

The 2008 edition of the festival presents 4 operas in their concert versions, a series of 5 sacred music concerts, and instrumental concert, and finally two recitals.The operas, oratorios, concerts, and recitals will take place over four weekends and be held in the 12th and 14th century Romanesque Notre-Dame basilica and in the 15th century Salle des Pôvres at the Hospices of Beaune.
The Italians conductors Antonio Florio and Ottavio Dantone will re-introduce us to two operas, in French premieres: Ottavia, restituita al trono by Domenico Scarlatti and Adriano in Siria by Pergolèse.
Paul McCreesh will conduct Purcell's famous Didon et Énée.
Continuing its policy of introducing and promoting young talent, the festival has once again invited the talented young conductor Jérémie Rhorer to conduct Gluck's L’Orphée et Eurydice.
For sacred music, Daniel Reuss and Paul Agnew will conduct, respectively, popular works by Handel: the motet Dixit Dominus et l’anthem The ways of Zion do mourn and the Ode to Sainte Cecilia. Joël Suhubiette will conduct the entire 6 motets of Bach. Rinaldo Alessandrini will conduct Le Vespro solenne per la festività de San Marco. Christophe Rousset will return to Beaune to inaugurate a new Campra series with The Requiem. For recitals, the festival is showcasing the American countertenor Lawrence Zazzo with several cantats and opera arias by Purcell, and the Austrian countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic with works by Vivaldi. Finally, Jordi Savall will take us on a musical voyage across Europe from 1550-1700, in particular through works by Dowland, Purcell, Rossi and Cabezon.
