Les rencontres musicales de Fontainebleau

Du 16 mai au 14 juin 2008

In 2000 as a precursor to the opening of the European Center for Chamber Music at the Chateau of Fontainebleau, ProQuartet imagined a unique festival entitled Les Rencontres musicales ProQuartet de Fontainebleau .
It has since become the springtime meeting place for lovers of string quartets, professionals and young musicians. This festival is now a mainstay in the Paris region, and allows one to make cultural discoveries in a large swath of area in the Seine and Marne region still preserved today. Most notably are churches in small villages in the south, the municipal theater and the Chateau of Fontainebleau.
This festival has helped to launch the careers of many young, talented ensembles, but it is also a meeting place for many renowned chamber musicians. Each year, an ever-growing audience enjoys the chamber music repertory as well as contemporary composers.
Since its inception, the new generation of young musicians who have taken the ProQuartet professional training program or are winners of international competitions have performed at the festival alongside such veteran musicans as Gidon Kremer, Leon Fleisher, Joseph Suk, Ivan Moravec, and the Arditti, Prazak, Keller, and Alban Berg Quartets.
Each year, ProQuartet commissions works that are created during concert workshops in the presence of the composers, or offers new French creations. Major figures in the music world today, from Henri Dutilleux to Pierre Boulez, Pascal Dusapin, Kaija Saariaho, Heinz Holliger, and Philippe Fenelon have all presented their works in the prestigious setting of the Chateau of Fontainebleau.
