Built in the early 12th century by monks from the Coteaux order, the abbey of Silvacane is part of the "three Provencal sisters" along with the abbeys of Thoronet and Senanque. These are monuments attesting to the influence of Saint Bernard. The abbey of Silvacance is situated a few kilometers from the village of La Roque d'Antheron. It is much like a Tuscany site, overlooking the Durance and opposite the Luberon mountains. Simplicity and architectural perfection come together at Silvacane, with its magnificent light and stone. The site was orginally conceived for its austerity and rigor, but now gives visitors instant pleasure.
