FESTIVAL 2007: A GOOD VINTAGE The concerts of the 69th Festival of Strasbourg were considered a great success by the audiences, and the press which rightly honored the integral of Beethoven's symphonies conducted by PAAVO JÄRVI and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie from Brême. The same enthusiam for the recitals by EVGENY KISSIN, BARBARA HENDRICKS, for the performance by BRUNO LEONARDO GELBER of the two concertos of Brahms and for JIRI KOUT who conducted Carmina Burana as the closing concert of the Festival. With an attendance rate over 80%, this was an historic year. The First International Opera Competition, President of the Jury: BARBARA HENDRICKS First prize of 10,000 euros: MARINA ZYATKOVA, soprano (Russia, 26 years old) Special prize of the jury (6,000 euros) and Audience prize (3,000 euros): SOO JOO CLARA LIM, soprano (Korea, 27 years old). Finalists (1,000 euros each): ISRAEL LOZANO, tenor (Spain, 32 years old) - EVGENIA GREKOVA, soprano (Russia, 32 years old) ELISABETH BAILEY, soprano (Great Britain, 27 years old) NATHALIE GAUDEFROY, soprano (France, 32 years old) GERARDO GARCIACANO, baritone (Mexico, 30 years old) Conducted by CLAUDE SCHNITZLER, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg provided a luxiurous accompaniment to the performers. The competition owed a lot to the president of the jury, BARBARA HENDRICKS, who was very attuned to the singers and interviewed each one individually. Thanks to her, the competition had a very friendly atmosphere to it.
